Puska & Mass

書籍や雑誌をディスプレイするためのちょっとしたアイテムが欲しいと依頼が来た。本をディスプレイするということは何か受け取りてにメッセージを伝えるということも含まれている。そこで本を配置する位置や距離で、新たな文脈をもたせることができるブックエンドを考えた。加工はコストの事も考えて特殊な事を必要とせず、一般的なブックエンドのように鉄板の抜きと曲げで新しい形ができないかと制作した。横に連続性をもたせたり、前後に配置してディスプレイすることができる。

We received a commission from Kibundo, a well-known library furniture manufacturer based in Kyoto, to create a distinctive piece for showcasing books and magazines. This challenge led to the creation of 'Puska & Mass', uniquely shaped bookends that are made using a traditional technique of bending punched steel plates. These bookends can be arranged flexibly in a horizontal line or placed front-to-back, thus adding engaging depth to book displays. We envisaged that these various arrangements could enhance readers' experience by providing different contexts and interpretations. 'Puska & Mass' is a manifestation of the profound understanding of library environments by Kibundo and the careful observations of modern library usage by SEIKI DESIGN STUDIO. This collaboration has resulted in a product that merges traditional craftsmanship with modern design principles, bringing a charming touch to library environments.
